Knights Set Team Records in Home Loss vs Poplar Bluff

The FHS Boys Swim Team hosted the Poplar Bluff boys team for a SEMO Conference dual at the Farmington Civic Center on Thursday, September 23.  The visiting Mules took control of the meet early with wins in the first five events contested and never looked back on their way to a 108-58 victory.

The Knights were victorious in three events during the meet including individual wins by Chris Orr (100 Free) and Ari Woodson (100 Back) to go along with the top spot in the 200 Freestyle Relay (Ari Woodson, Malachi Smith, Sam Woodson, Dylan Weaver).

Many Knight swimmers were exploring new events as the team concluded the first half of the competitive season in the midst of the team’s strongest training cycle.  Senior Ari Woodson broke the team record in the 200 Free with a time of  2:01.58 displaying a seasoned control of his speed and improved endurance in his first attempt at the event in competition.  His younger brother Sam Woodson would not be outdone as he tested his endurance at the 500 yard distance.  His time of 6:11.40 was good enough for another team record and provided him some great experience for future development.

Coach Cravens had this to say about the meet, “We knew the boys from Poplar Bluff would pose a tough challenge this afternoon and they did not disappoint.  We made some mistakes and lost a couple of close battles for scoring positions early that led to an uneven start on the scoreboard.  The boys continued to compete well throughout the meet with some strong efforts that will certainly be viewed as positive take-aways from this meet.  We are in the heart of our strongest training cycle at present and the boys are showing up each day ready for the challenge. We look forward to getting back to work tomorrow and continuing to improve as we head into the second half of the season!”
