FHS Boys Open Season with Double Dual Victories over Notre Dame and Saxony Lutheran

Scores: Farmington:  47     Notre Dame:  46

             Farmington:  62     Saxony Lutheran: 26

The Farmington High School boys swim team kicked off the competitive season at home with two victories over visiting Notre Dame  Cape Girardeau and Saxony Lutheran. The narrow one point victory over the favored Bulldogs of Notre Dame was truly a team effort. The two teams traded dominant event wins by taking one-two finishes throughout the heart of the event lineup. Farmington took control of the dual after completing a one-two finish in event #9, the 200 Freestyle relay.  They followed that up with a strong finish in the 100 Backstroke when Seniors Ari Woodson and Carter Murray touched the wall ahead of the two Notre Dame swimmers. The two teams split the remaining two events and the final score showed how important every single swim can be in the dual meet format.

The FHS Boys 200 Medley Relay (Ari Woodson, Dylan Weaver, Sam Woodson, Chris Orr) and 200 Freestyle Relay (Sam Woodson, Chris Orr, Gavin Eaton, Ari Woodson) both posted MSHSAA State Championship consideration times.  Sophomore Chris Orr earned two individual event wins (50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle) at the meet.  Ari Woodson (100 Backstroke) and Sam Woodson (100 Breaststroke) also placed overall event wins at the meet.

Coach Jason Cravens had this to say about the team performance, “I thought our senior leadership set the tone for the team effort today.  Each of the three seniors navigated difficult back to back events in their meet lineups today and that toughness paved the way for the strong finish in the dual with Notre Dame.  The Bulldogs have a strong group of seasoned swimmers leading their team who each have state meet aspirations and they will continue to be a force in our conference this season. Our boys stuck together and maintained a strong enough effort to earn the narrow victory and that will help us as we try to improve moving forward.”
