Knight Swimmers Battle to Tie at Poplar Bluff

The Farmington Boys Swim Team travelled to Poplar Bluff on Tuesday, October 19 for the second dual meet of the season with the Poplar Bluff Mules. The Knights (4-1-1) arrived looking for improvement after the Mules handled them with ease at the Farmington Civic Center in late September by the score of 108-58.  The Farmington boys responded with their best dual meet effort of the season and battled their conference rivals to an 82-82 tie in a meet that was as tightly contested as the final score indicates.

The Knights took six of the eleven swimming events contested.  They were led by two wins a piece from brothers Ari Woodson (50 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke) and Sam Woodson (200 Individual Medley, 100 Breaststroke).  The 200 Medley Relay (Ari Woodson, Dylan Weaver, Sam Woodson, Chris Orr) and the 200 Freestyle Relay (Chris Orr, Sam Woodson, Gavin Eaton, Ari Woodson) were dominant on their way to victories.

The six event wins were supported by a host a personal best times and strong finishes from each of the Knight swimmers.  Freshman Jon Bone dropped large chunks of time off of his personal bests to finish 2nd in the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle events. Bone also posted a four second personal best in his 100 Freestyle relay leg at the conclusion of the meet to earn swimmer of the meet honors from Coach Cravens!

Senior Carter Murray posted two solid best times on his way to a second place finish in the 100 Backstroke and a third place finish in the 200 Freestyle.  Senior Dylan Weaver continued his strong senior campaign with time improvements in the 100 Butterfly (2nd) and 100 Breaststroke (3rd).

Sophomore Chris Orr has been a consistent scorer for the team in the sprint freestyle events this season and he contributed yet again with solid second place finishes in the 50 and 100 Freestyle events.

Gavin Eaton managed three personal best times at the meet (200 Individual Medley, 100 Freestyle, and again in the 100 Freestyle leading off the 400 Freestyle Relay) and Titan Thomas continued his streak of personal best times in the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle events on his way to scoring swims!

Coach Cravens had this to say about the squad following the meet, “This was easily our best dual meet effort of the season. The boys were focused on a strong start after we experienced a slow one when Poplar Bluff visited back in September.  Once the Medley Relay set the tone in the first event with a season best time, the boys were off to the races and the confidence seemed to carry over to each member of the team! The freshmen stood out to me today and they are definitely surging with confidence and dropping time each time they race.”
